Creating a recording
data base
WorldTV creates a
data base of recordable links and
recorded files. The links and files are
organized in the following categories:
- Favorites
- InternetTV
- Video
- Audio
- URLs

Main
Window
The Categories are shown on the left
side of the Main Window.
The links listed under the Subjects
can be recordable or non-recordable media
streams, web sites or any other valid
Internet places. Once the links are
included in your data base they can be
easily accessed without opening your
browser.
When you select a Category for
recording all recorded files are saved in
a folder that has the same name as the
category selected. For example if you
selected the InternetTV
category and your main recording folder
is C:\WTV Recordings all
recorded files will be saved in C:\WTV
Recordings\InternetTV.
Using the scheduler you can program
recordings or open your favorite sites at
any convenient times. Multiple timers can
be setup.
Updating your recording
data base
WorldTV provides you with periodic
updates of recordable links. This
includes Internet TV sites, web radio
stations, video and audio clips and other
recordable or non-recordable media
materials. The web sites that supply the
links are also included in the updates.
All updates are organized in the
Categories shown above.
To dwonload the current updates select
option Download Updates
from the Main Window. When the download
is finished the Updates Window opens
showing the downloaded categories.

From the list displayed
select a category to view or record the
new updates. You can edit the links, move
them to other Categories or you can
select all files listed in a Catergory
and record them at once. You can only
keep the live streams in your recording
data base.

showing the recording activity.

Recording
Window
One feature that you can find under Options
is View Entire Category.
This will show all the links from a
Category and allow you to select some or
all of them for recording.
WorldTV can record
hundreds of streams at once. The number
of simultaneous recordings depends
however on a series of factors. The most
important limiting factors are the type
of broadcast and your connection speed. For
bulk data transfer (non-streaming
broadcasts - usually prerecorded video
and audio clips) the main limitation is
your connection speed. On Cable
connections (3000 kbps) we recommend a
maximum of 100 simultaneous downloads.
For streaming broadcasts (usually live
broadcasts) we recommend no more than 30
simultaneous downloads.
Cancel
Recording
To cancel recording
of one stream right click
on the File Name shown in the Recording
Window and select Stop Recording
from the Recording pop-up menu.
Select Stop All Recordings
if you want to cancel all current
recordings
Preview a recording in
process
To preview a recording in process right
click on the recording File Name
and select Preview Recording
from the Recording pop-up menu. This
brings up Windows Media Player to play
the actual recording. Please note that
the files being recorded are not seekable
until the recording reached the end of
file or you canceled the recording.
Resume
Recording
Resuming a recorded
file means restart recording from the
point where recording was interrupted or
canceled. For files that have a finite
time (pre-recorded or progressive
downloads) resuming will start at the
last recorded time. For live broadcasts
resuming will start at the current time
and obviously there will be a gap in the
recording. The new recorded file will be
added to the previously recorded file.
To resume a recorded
file right click on the
File Name from either the Recording
Window or from the Play Window (see
below) and select Resume
Recording from the Recording or
Play pop-up menus.
Restart
recording
Restart recording is
re-recording a file from the beginning. A
new file is created. The existing files
with the same name are not overwritten.
To restart recording
right click on the File
Name from either the Recording Window or
from the Play Window (see below) and
select Record Again from
the Play pop-up menu.
Playing recorded files
To playback recorded files click Recordings
on the Main Window. This opens the Play
Window shown below.

Play
Window
Right click on the
File Name and select Play
Recorded Files from the Play
pop-up menu.
To play multiple files hold the Ctrl
key, select the files, right
click on the selection and
choose Play Recorded Files
from the pop-up menu. Please note that
this creates a Windows Media Player
temporary playlist. The playlist is
deleted when you close the Media Player.
Playing streams without
recording
You can play streams without
recording by selecting the option Open
Stream Url from either the Main
Window, Recording Window or the Play
Window. You can also enable this option
while recording a stream.
Validate recordable
links
The streams included in your data base
may become outdated. To find out if the
URL (address) of the streams are still
valid you can use the Validate
Streams option from the Options
menu. This will scan all the links listed
in the selected Category, make a
connection and try to initiate a
download. The following symbols are used
to show the file status:

click Copy.
Scheduling Recordings
You can setup one or
more recordings to start / stop at a
given time. To do this select the
Category and the Subject, highlight one
or more link names and right click on the
selection. From the Task pop-up menu
select Set / Delete Timers
to open the Timer Setup window.

You can use the available options to
Start / End recording(s), Delete one or
more timers or Setup a timer for all
links that belong to the same domain (web
site name).
Scheduling web sites
You can also use the
scheduler to bring up one or more web
sites at a given time. This feature can
be useful for starting a chatt, getting
financial reports, listening to scheduled
shows on web radio, etc.
Adding
new streams
To add a new stream click Options
on the Main Window then select Add
New Stream. The New Stream
window opens.

If the stream link
(URL) was already copied to the clipboard
it will be shown under Stream URL.
The web site URL showed under Web
Site URL may not always be the
address of the main web site (domain)
that provides the stream. You should
either enter this manually or go to the
site and copy the correct name from your
browser address bar.
From the Category
list (left) select a Category and from
the Subject list (right)
select a subject (or manually enter a new
subject). Then under Site Name /
Clip Name enter a name for the
link.
One
way to find a stream URL it is to right
click on Windows Media Player window
while the stream is played. Then click
Properties, highlight the URL , right
click on it and select Copy. This will
copy the URL to the clipboard.
Or
you can use the program WM Recorder
available from www.wmrecorder.com.
Adding new web sites
To add a new web
site link copy the web site address from
your browser address bar then click Options
/ Add New Web Site. Follow the
procedure shown above.
Edit,
Delete, Move
To edit, delete or move a link to a
different Category right click on the
link name and select Edit, Delete
or Move from
the Task pop-up menu. The Edit / Change
Item window opens

Enter a subscription
password
You can record video
and audio from sites that require
subscription and provide you with a
password. To enter your password
open the Edit / Change Item window (as
shown above) and enter your username and
password. To apply the password to all
links that belong to the same domain (web
address) check the option Apply
Password to all same domain names.
If the option Remember Password
is unchecked the password is valid for
the current WorldTV session only.
DRM (Digital Rights Management)
materials can be recorded if you have
supplied the correct password and
provided the payment. However Windows
Media Player will re-check your purchased
license ever time you playback the
recording.
Recording Windows Media
ASX files
The ASX files are Windows Media files
that redirect the Player to streams, web
sites, images and other Internet items.
When the ASX file contains directions to
multiple streams you have the option to
either record all listed streams at once
or one by one. To record all listed files
at once open Settings
and enable the option Record all
files from ASX playlists. You
should be careful when using this option.
Many times the ASX directions point to
the same file so you may end up recording
the same file several times. You
should use this option especially for
scheduled recordings when you know what
are the contents of the ASX file.
The ASX files are saved in the
selected directory. Click Recordings
to bring up the Play Window and then use
the option View ASX Files
from the Play pup-up menu to display /
record all or some of the listed files.
Reprocess, Split, Merge
recordings
The Reprocess option
can be used to make non-seekable files
seekable or vice-versa. Sometimes
recorded files may end up unseekable even
if the Seekable option was turned on. In
this case you can use the Reprocess
option to make the file
seekable. A file with the extension .rep
is created. Reprocessing is not intended
to fix problems that may occur during
recording however in many cases it can
also do this.
The Split option
allows you to split a file in two or more
pieces by specifying a Starting and
Ending time.
The Merge option
allows you to merge (join) files that
belong to the same stream. For example,
two portions of a live broadcast were
recorded at different times. They can be
joined together in any order using the
Merge option.
General
Settings
To open the Settings
Window click Settings on
the Main Window.

To view / change the
folder were recorded files are saved
click Recording Directory.
If your computer is
a LAN client and connects through a proxy
server click LAN Settings
to enter your proxy IP Address,
connection ports and password.
The option Disable
Timers at Start Up can be used
to disable the scheduled recordings that
are set to start at a time before you
turned your computer on.
Media
Player select
This option allows
you choose what player is to be used for
playback i.e. Windows Media Player
(wmplayer.exe) or the NetShow
(mplayer2.exe). Although Windows Media
Player is far more powerful than NetShow
there may be situations when you may want
to use the second.
File
Properties
The Seekable and Compress
Time options indicate how the
files are recorded or re-processed.
A seekable file is a file where you
can use the FAST FORWARD, REWIND and STOP
commands (same as for a tape player).
Most of the pre-recorded media files and
all live files downloaded from the
Internet are non-seekable when recorded
and played back from your computer (even
though they may be seekable when played
from the Internet). When Seekable
option is turned on all recorded files
are made seekable.
The Compress Time option
allows you to eliminate gaps of missing
data especially when recording live
streams on poor connections. However, the
missing data is not recovered
